How to Repair and Reseal the Driveway in Atlanta and North Georgia

Here in the Atlanta area, we’ve had so much rain this summer. If you believe some of the predictions that are being made about this fall, we could be in for a year of a lot of ice and snow. Your driveway is more vulnerable to the elements during fall and winter, especially if the ground is hard and frozen. Small cracks can become big cracks… even large sections of your driveway could break off.

Check out this great article that was found at startrightstarthere.com. It has good information about how you can tackle this seemingly overwhelming project. You can do this project yourself and show off to your neighbors and feel good about yourself at the same time.

A driveway is a big homeowner investment in curb appeal, as well as dollars spent. When it’s stained, cracking or crumbling, it can really bring down the appeal of your home’s exterior. However, you can prolong a driveway’s life span and delay spending a fortune on a new one down the road by taking steps to protect it. Sealing your driveway allows you to start protecting it from the ravages of age and the elements.

Step 1. Determine Driveway Conditions
Before you seal your driveway, you need to inspect it for cracks or other damage and fix the problems. Cracks, if left unattended, can eventually grow and cause the driveway to crumble. Whether you have an asphalt or concrete driveway, the more proactive you are at repairing cracks and then sealing the driveway, the longer your driveway will last without the need for expensive replacement or resurfacing. Plan the project so that you have at least 2 to 3 days of sunny or otherwise rain-free weather in which to work and let the sealant set. Because sealants provide protection against water infiltrating the surface, they won’t be as effective if water contaminates them.
