NASCAR and True Value Hardware

Another season of NASCAR racing is about to start. I’m sitting here watching the Saturday events prior to the Daytona 500 tomorrow and was thinking that a lot has changed in the sport over the years. It wasn’t that long ago that True Value Hardware was very involved in NASCAR.

Do you remember that True Value Hardware was the title sponsor of the IROC Series (International Race of Champions) up until 2003. In the IROC events, drivers raced identically-prepared stock cars set up by a single team of mechanics in an effort to make the race purely a test of driver ability. It was run with a small field of 6 to 12 invited drivers. (Source) The races were typically completed on NASCAR oval tracks which meant that some of better known F1 drivers were not as interested in competing, however some Indy and truck series drivers came out to compete.  The True Value Hardware name has also been a title sponsor of some smaller busch series race events as well as being the official Hardware Store of NASCAR for several years.

But then when you start to look at the car sponsors, you’ll see MANY sponsors that have been a big part of the Howard Brothers Hardware world.

  • Dewalt
  • Stanley /Black & Decker
  • Irwin Tools
  • Kline Tools
  • Cooper Hand Tools
  • Milwaukee Power Tools
  • Hitachi Power Tools
Even track sponsors are part of our family. Big Green Egg is the official smoker/Grill of Atlanta Motor Speedway, and Honda Generators are an official track sponsor of Talledega Motor Speedway. I know that there are MANY that I don’t know about.
So it isn’t just Home Depot and Lowes that put their paint and logo on the side of a driver’s ride. While True Value isn’t a title sponsor anymore of NASCAR, True Value Hardware is still a large part of our countries local economies. True Value exemplifies locally owned businesses that are very active in our towns and communities.
