Just in time for Christmas, our friends at Independent we Stand have released their first app. It is a free download from the iPhone or Android app stores. It will help you this holiday season as you try to “think local” with your gift purchasing decisions.
You may ask why this app is important. I can hear the argument… you already have Yelp, Kudzu, Urbanspoon or other apps that help you find local businesses… well, this app puts at your fingertips companies that are recognized as locally own and independently run businesses. It is hard to differentiate between chain businesses or businesses that are owned out of state… Independent We Stand is a movement of locally-owned businesses and people across the country dedicated to educating their communities about the importance – and strong economic benefits – of ‘buying local.’ AND they are THE ONLY major online directory of local businesses that promotes actual locally owned businesses.
Don’t be fooled by glitzy marketing from other websites claiming to care about promoting locally owned businesses. Check them out and search their databases. Along with locally owned businesses you will often find big box stores and large national/mega regional chains. Not on Independent We Stand. We make each merchant that wants to join the movement answer five questions designed specifically to keep the chains and big boxes out, and we personally approve each listing.
This app allows you to either Shop Local, Eat Local, Play Local or get Local Services. You can learn more about the movement and read about how small businesses across the country are doing their part to be a major impact for their communities and customers.
